Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral is, like the Pont Neuf, an iconic monument of Paris and it was represented by many artists, from the 15th century on. Paintings of Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral show a large span of the French heritage. Its occurrences in paintings tell us about the clashes of the history of men and the evolutions of taste in terms of architecture.
In France we have an expression that says « la pomme ne tombe jamais loin de l’arbre », « the apple does not fall far from the tree », and in my family it’s true since one of my daughters also paints !
My daughter Gaëlle is a watercolor artist, she illustrated a collection of 12 books about signs of the zodiac.
Watercolour is one of the types of painting I propose in my art classes, especially when they are given outdoors.
I now give the floor, or rather « the brush » to my daughter to tell us about this very particular painting technique that is watercolor.
I was recently asked what advice I would give to someone who wants start painting.
This may be a long time, so I have condensed my answer into five main tips here :
- Painting equipment
- The best paint to start
- Find the subject of your painting
- Forget the doubts
- And keep the motivation

If the Eiffel Tower is the symbol of the France and Paris, « La Dame de fer » is not the most visited the monument by France. First place goes to the cathedral « Notre-Dame de Paris ». And if you want to visit this extraodinary church you must take one of the 9th bridges to go to the island St-Louis. And why not take the « Pont neuf » ?
If you are looking for an unforgettable and original place to immortalize in painting, I recommend this view. Between the barges, the seine and the bridge, what a beautiful postcard of Paris! Many painters have immortalized it. We often go to this bridge with my students for an outdoor painting class and they always make beautiful watercolour paintings!
For some people, October rhymes with leaf litter and melancholy, however, I am not one of them. Above all, October announces the time for apples! What a wonderful fruit. Thanks to my lovely house in Normandy, I have the opportunity to harvest kilograms of fruits every year. Therefore I can do one of the things that I like the most (after painting of course): cooking. Because what is more tempting that a fruit fallen from a tree?
A great thing about apples is that you can cook them in a sweet or in a salty dish: apple crumble, black pudding with apples, endive salad with blue cheese, nuts and apples… And it’s always tasty.
Let me introduce you 78 oil paintings during my new exhibition in Paris.
As far as I know, painting and art always held an important place in my life. My parents were loving art : paintings, sculptures, furniture, antiques…, there were beautiful things at home, when I was young. And they passed on to me their passion.
I’m always delighted to welcome people in my studio for an art class. To transmit to them my passion for the painting and to give of good advice. And I am very proud when they are inspired by my paintings to realize their own creation!
If you want visiting Paris, I’m sure you will like to see the Eiffel tower and eat a french baguette.
And I think that you will love visiting Montmartre. Is one of the most famous district in Paris with the Sacré coeur Basilica and the “Place du tertre”.
